Our History

Hi, my name is Jeff Seckar, owner of Quality Pet Management, Northeastern Wisconsin's professional installer of quality in ground pet fences.  Many people ask how I got into the business of in ground pet fence installation.  It is quite a story one that changed the way I took care of my pups for the rest of my life, luckily this story has a happy ending.

I decided to get into the pet containment business in 1996. A mischievous senior dog and a new puppy, combined with a bad situation started the process. The senior dogs name was Boo and the pup was Sky. Boo was a roamer. He would sneak away any chance he could. Sometimes he would be gone overnight. I would worry so much it hurt. All I could think of was Boo getting hit by a car or getting into trouble with coyotes or other dogs. That was bad as it was, but it got worse. One night, Boo did his disappearing act, only this time, with Sky. She was only three months old and just following her leader. Well, I noticed they were gone in the afternoon and went looking for them. I talked to all the local neighbors to no avail. I then talked to a local farmer approximately two miles from my house. He said that he saw two  black labs cross the road in front of his farm around six o’clock and one of them got hit by a car and ran off into the marsh. The other one ran back the way it came. I was sick. I looked and called for hours with no luck. I feared the worse. When I got home, I found Boo at the door but no Sky. I had to go to bed with this on my mind. Thinking of my Sky hurt or dead in the marsh made sleep not an option.

Around five AM the next morning, sitting in my chair worrying, I heard a noise at the garage door. Unbelievably, Sky, a three month old puppy, wounded, cold and wet, found her way two miles back home. She was limping severely and cut and bruised but made it home. Thankfully she made a full recovery. To this day, I do not know how she did it but that was the moment the wheels started turning. I had to find a way to prevent this from ever happening again.

I looked into putting up a chain-link fence. I knew it would not look the best and be a pain to trim the grass around but the worst part was the cost. They wanted  9000$ to surround my two acre property. I could not afford this so I looked into other options. I then found that in ground fences were much more affordable but would they work?

I did my homework, found an in ground fence system online, and installed it myself.  I spent three days  and an additional 150$ in machine rental fees putting the system in but I got it done. With my six years experience as an amateur dog trainer and an electrical background, I realized I enjoyed doing this!  I love dogs and love protecting them even more!

After helping several friends install their own systems, I researched in ground pet fences and installation equipment to begin my own company.  With several referrals from friends and family Quality Pet Management grew beyond what I expected.  However this was a good problem to have, with the volume of business I bring in on in ground pet fences each year I am able to keep my costs down and keep my prices low.
